Using WildTangent with UltraPlayer

This is a mini-FAQ of questions regarding the WildTangent Vis Plug-ins for UltraPlayer users. If you have questions that are not answered here, feel free to email WildTangent Support. You can also find information about configuring the WildTangent visualizers in the Getting Started section on the WildTangent site.

How can I develop my own WildTangent visualizers?
The great folks at WildTangent provide a Software Development Kit (SDK) for their visualizers. It contains all the information and examples you will need to start making your own WildTangent visualizers. To get it, visit the WildTangent Developer Downloads area and get the Audio Driver SDK.

The WildTangent visualizers run very slowly on my computer. How can I make them run more smoothly?
If the WildTangent visualizers are running slowly, you can tweak a couple of settings to try to optimize your computer for the visualizers.

1. You can change your display settings to render in 16-bit color instead of higher settings that are very resource intensive. To do this:

  • Right-click in a blank area of your desktop.
  • Select Properties.
  • Go to the Settings tab.
  • Under the Colors section, change the setting in the dropdown box to "High Color (16-bit)".
  • Press OK.
  • You may have to reboot to make the change effective, but when you are done, try the WildTangent visualizer again.

2. You can also try shrinking the window in which the WildTangent visualizers appear. To do this:

  • Run a WildTangent visualizer.
  • When it opens, hold your mouse over the lower right corner of the window until a double-headed arrow appears.
  • When that arrow appears, press and hold your mouse button and drag the window to the left so that it shrinks.
  • Check to see if this improves the speed of the vis.

Note: Users with Voodoo2 video cards will have difficulties using the WildTangent visualizers in a window because VooDoo2 does not support hardware acceleration in a window.

How do I uninstall the WildTangent audio visualizers?
I'm not sure why you would ever want to uninstall the WildTangent visualizers, but here's how to do it:

  1. Close UltraPlayer.
  2. Open Windows Explorer.
  3. Find the location of your UltraPlayer installation. If you installed in the default location, this will be "C:\Program Files\UltraPlayer".
  4. Open the Plugins folder, then open the Vis folder.
  5. In the Vis folder, delete the "wt" folder.
  6. Also in the Vis folder, delete the file named "wtupv.uvs".
